Pamela Hofsass holds over 35 years of experience in law enforcement, eighteen years of which include forensic science with an emphasis on forensic DNA analysis. For the last four years, she has held the position of Chief of the Forensic Services Division of the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff where she oversees a full-service crime laboratory including CSI and Property for the Sheriff’s Office as well as twenty-five Law Enforcement Agencies within the county. She brings to the Crime Lab a keen focus on efficiency and effectiveness based on her own experience as a detective and as a DNA analyst. The Lab has transformed over the last six years thanks to improvements in every facet of its operation: state-of- the art technology, increased staffing levels and a commitment to quality of service.    

Pamela served 25 years with the San Francisco Police Department and worked in several assignments; Patrol, the SFPD Crime Lab, the CSI Unit, Sexual Assault and Homicide Details and her last post as a Patrol Lieutenant. She worked on several high-profile cold cases prior to retiring from the department.        

Pamela has taught forensic science and crime scene investigations to first responders and detectives through the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation. She has presented workshops and case studies throughout the United States and Canada. She has a BA in Chemistry from Rutgers University and a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science from the University of California Davis. She is a member of ASCLD (American Society of Crime Lab Directors), AAFS (American Academy of Forensic Services) and the CAC (California Association of Criminalists).
