Judge Michele McKay McCoy
San Jose Judge

After a false start as a librarian, and another false start as an attorney in private practice, I finally found my destiny as a prosecutor, first for Contra Costa County and then for Santa Clara County. Along the way I taught other prosecutors, veteran police officers, police cadets, college students and law school students. More than 12 years ago two friends nagged me until I filed for an open judgeship. I was elected (not by much) and began a career as a criminal trial judge. My last three years have been spent on the competency calendar, dealing with mentally ill or mentally disabled people who commit crimes.
