Kathy Matsushita Bio:

Kathy was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951, after her parents were released from the Poston Japanese Internment camp during WWII. Her family moved back to Santa Clara, California in 1956 (where her parents were from).

Kathy attended UC Berkeley majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. She then received her teaching credential and worked as a teacher’s aide, in intercultural ministry, and then as an English teacher at Independence High School in East Side San Jose where she taught until she retired in 2012. That is where I met Kathy when I was a 9th grade principal.

When she was teaching, Kathy only had time to build musical instruments during the summer, but when she retired, she was able to make them whenever she wanted. A few years ago, Kathy started posting on her Facebook page the process of making a Ukelele. Little did I know that she was making a Ukelele for me.
